Sourcing Foundation Building Blocks: Part 1

Sourcing Foundation Building Blocks: Part 1

This IDC Perspective addresses the challenges facing a modern IT procurement team. Technology procurement practices are well known throughout the industry, but given there are no identified standards for practices or governance, they tend to be implemented differently and inconsistently across organizations. In addition, there does not appear to be a prioritization or balanced approach to the practices that leads to an uneven implementation and leads to a less-than-desired result. This is not suggesting that some of the practices aren't implemented effectively, but it does suggest — and given our findings — that many organizations are challenged with the end-to-end complete implementation of all the practices. Understanding that each of the practices is a critical building block and interrelated is important for any organization that is planning to design and/or maintain an effective procurement program."Technology procurement practices need to be revisited and re-prioritized. This is what will prepare and strengthen organizations for the new wave of technology and procurement engagements," said Freddie Diaz, senior adjunct research analyst, IDC's Sourcing Advisory Service.
