Oracle Revamps Exadata Database Platforms With Huge Performance Gains at the Same Price Point
This IDC Market Note looks at Oracle's revamp of its Exadata platforms for running Oracle Database — integrated database servers, storage, application servers, and networking — all in one system. The company is pushing the envelope of what is possible in such database platforms by optimizing its capabilities for both transactional and analytical needs. There is a good deal of flexibility depending on the specific anticipated workload and chosen execution venue (on-premises, public cloud, or hybrid)."The legacy of Oracle's Sun Microsystems acquisition lives on largely through its Exadata Database Machine line," said Jason Stamper, research manager, IDC Europe. "Despite a change of processor, Oracle has not only maintained application compatibility with previous generations, but it also kept entry-price parity despite including numerous performance and scalability improvements. IDC believes Exadata will continue to be a popular choice for OLTP, analytics, consolidation, AI/ML, IoT, blockchain, gaming, and high-speed financial systems at large companies."
