Mitigating Bias in HR Is Critical to Ensuring Fair Decision Making


This IDC Perspective looks at mitigating bias in HR systems to ensure fair outcomes. As the use of AI increases in HCM technology, so too does the increased risk of bias built into the system. Technology providers, services firms, the technology buyers, and the end users need to understand the bias implications, removing or changing them as they appear. This document serves as an overview of the bias concerns and also a place to find regulations that might assist as the tools are reviewed, purchased, implemented, and utilized. "Understanding bias and its influence in HR systems is critical and even more so when AI is used to improve workflows," said Alicia Mokwa, research director, Talent Acquisition and Strategy at IDC. "Organizations are under greater scrutiny to follow applicable local and country laws, and that includes ensuring bias does not make them noncompliant."
