Are Mission-Critical Networks over 5G the Next Big Thing for CSPs to Monetize 5G?
This IDC Market Perspective discusses mission-critical network (MCN) systems, which are currently in a transition phase. MCNs are evolving from traditional land mobile radio systems such as TETRA to broadband systems such as 5G, leveraging their flexibility, security, and efficiency by sharing all or some of the network infrastructure. This brings great business opportunity for telco operators to drive 5G monetization. To capitalize on this multiyear profitable opportunity, CSPs will encounter certain challenges in the immediate future. "Mission-critical systems are among the most relevant revenue streams driving 5G monetization. Telco operators have a unique opportunity to increase their topline thanks to this technology in the coming years," said Alejandro Cadenas, associate vice president of Mobility Research, IDC EMEA. "The process to migrate to 5G is already happening so the window of opportunity for operators shall be leveraged, or the opportunity will be gone for many years to come."
