Microsoft's Quantum Computing Strategy: A Pragmatic Approach to Quantum Advantage
This IDC Perspective provides insights into Microsoft's quantum computing program and offerings. Microsoft provided the context for the company's quantum computing strategy and forward-looking quantum outlook. Microsoft's quantum computing strategy embraces the practical quantum advantage, whereby quantum advantage can only be achieved when the technology can be used to solve scientifically or commercially useful problems faster or better than when trying to solve the same problems using classical compute systems."Considered to be one of the Big 5 American information technology companies for classical, Microsoft is now trying to brand itself as a leader in the quantum computing market," said Heather West, research manager, Quantum Computing at IDC. "While the company successfully developed a recognized quantum computing platform-as-a-service offering, the topological qubit, which will act as the building block for Microsoft's quantum computing system, still eludes scientists. Still left unanswered is whether Microsoft's topological qubit will result in scientific advancement or remain science fiction.
