Microsoft Institutes Hardware-Enforced Security with Windows 11 and TPM 2.0
This IDC Perspective provides an overview of Trusted Platform Module (TPM) chips: what are they, what do they do, and why are they important. Microsoft is instituting hardware-enforced security with Windows 11 by listing TPM 2.0 as a minimum requirement. TPM can also be used with Internet of Things (IoT) devices to harden its security."Security by design is a principle that focuses on preventing cybersecurity breaches, rather than remediation and response after a breach," says Ed Lee, research director, IoT and Intelligent Edge, Security. "Building security into products at the chip and firmware levels will help establish a chain of trust from the moment a device boots up."
