Japan WAN Services Market Shares, 2021: Cloud Shift and Remote Work Bring Changes
This IDC study analyzes vendor shares and vendor trends for the Japan WAN services market in 2021. The overall market for WAN services, excluding legacy leased lines, maintained positive growth in 2021. By provider, the top 3 providers in terms of revenue are NTT Communications, KDDI, and SoftBank. In terms of revenue by WAN service type, L2 or L3 bandwidth guaranteed services still account for a high percentage; and providers, such as NTT Group, KDDI, and SoftBank that have gained a high share of these markets, have also gained a high share of the overall WAN service market."Carriers should respond to the shift in high bandwidth demand in the Ethernet leased line market because of the growing demand for inter-datacenter connectivity and to the demand for services with an intermediate price/performance ratio in the best effort WAN market. In addition, they should strengthen the organization and the offerings for integrated provision of mobile and fixed WAN services, which is becoming increasingly competitive because of the reorganization of the NTT Group," says Yoriyuki Yamashita, communications research manager, IDC Japan.
