This IDC study defines and provides a framework for analyzing the installed base of storage capacity, the amount of the installed base of storage capacity that is utilized, and the portion of the installed base that is available for storing data for a given year."The Global StorageSphere complements the Global DataSphere and reflects the data storage capacity residing on the installed base of consumer and enterprise managed systems and devices, including storage media such as optical discs, USB thumb drives, and flash cards," says John Rydning, research vice president, Global DataSphere at IDC. "This study provides the definitions and segmentations that are used as a framework for analyzing how much data storage capacity exists on different storage media types in a variety of systems and devices and how much data organizations and consumers are storing."
