IDC Perspective: Infinidat Announces Industry-Leading Open SAN Latencies on Their Updated All-Flash Array: InfiniBox SSA II

This IDC Perspective comments briefly on Infinidat's strong FY22 performance and then reviews their recent announcement with a focus on the latest InfiniBox SSA enhancements. In June 2021, enterprise storage vendor Infinidat announced its first all-flash system, the InfiniBox SSA. This was notable because Infinidat's hybrid flash array, the InfiniBox, has been outperforming all-flash arrays (AFAs) running mixed enterprise workloads for years, a factor that has fueled the vendor's rapid revenue growth since the product was first shipped in 2013. In April 2022, Infinidat announced a refresh of the InfiniBox SSA, revealing strong momentum for the product it is now calling the InfiniBox SSA II. The vendor also made other announcements that improve the software functionality, manageability, and cyber-resilience capabilities of their InfiniBox-based portfolio. "Somewhere between 5% and 10% of most IT organizations' applications are considered 'tier 0' and require the lowest, most consistent latencies, and many enterprises will only look at all-flash systems to address the latency requirements of these generally mission-critical workloads," says Eric Burgener, research vice president, Infrastructure Systems, Platforms and Technologies Group, IDC. "Infinidat is squarely targeting this market segment with its InfiniBox SSA, and the vendor's updated capabilities, including in particular the ability to deliver latencies as low as 35 microseconds and the InfiniBox SSA II's new InfiniSafe cyber-resilience support, make it an excellent fit for tier 0 workloads in the enterprise."
