IDC PeerScape: Practices in Collaborating with the Competition

IDC PeerScape: Practices in Collaborating with the Competition

This IDC PeerScape discusses best practices for overcoming common barriers to collaborating with competitors. We describe two examples of companies that built alliances that solve challenges common across their sectors and that allow them to more quickly deliver valuable digital products or services. In both cases, the deliverable is internally focused, allowing organizations to improve systems and processes in ways that may result in considerable efficiencies. "While collaborating with the competition is anathema to most companies, organizations across industries are beginning to find that such partnerships can have merit," said Nancy Gohring, research director of IDC's Future of Digital Innovation program. "Aligning on common pain points can lift an entire sector while still allowing space for differentiating digital innovation."
