The Growing Momentum for Non-Terrestrial Networks Supporting 5G and Internet of Things

This IDC Market Note delves into the key issues facing enterprises as they invest in Internet of Things (IoT) platforms to make sense of all the data flowing through their organization. Hardware investments must increasingly be aligned to the organization's goals, and data generation must be aligned to the necessary use cases that enable digital transformation (DX). This decoupling between data generation and consumption is increasingly enabled by the rise of data exchanges and, in some cases, marketplaces, in which creators and users can interact with and consume data, sometimes for a fee. "The future of IoT goes well beyond IoT modules and connectivity," says Shiv Putcha, Adjunct Research Director, IDC Asia/Pacific. "The value chain is increasingly decoupled between data generation and consumption, and data exchanges are emerging as the glue that binds and enables use cases for the enterprise," he adds.
