Google I/O 2023: AI Is the Focus

This IDC Market Note focuses on the software announcements Google made at its I/O developer conference in May 2023 related to generative artificial intelligence (AI). Google made a series of announcements related to AI across its product line, from enterprise solutions like Google Workspace to developer tools and foundation models like Vertex AI and universal speech models to security and infrastructure. Collectively, these updates and announcements are all aimed at helping more companies take advantage of the advances available through artificial intelligence, including generative AI, to help make their workforce more efficient, productive, and creative. "Google is ramping up its investment in AI in general and generative AI over the past few years. The announcements made at Google I/O 2023 are indicative of the ongoing commitment Google has to embedding AI and automation into every facet of its products and services offering," says Dave Schubmehl, research vice president for Conversational AI Tools and Technologies at IDC. "Organizations will be able to make quick use of these tools to develop and deploy generative AI more quickly, and Google's end users will be able to get the benefit of generative AI through Duet AI and the other recent announcements."
