U.S. Fixed Wireless Access Subscription Forecast, 2022–2026

This IDC study examines the U.S. market for fixed wireless access (FWA) subscriptions across consumers and business customers in both legacy 4G and emerging 5G forms."FWA, specifically in its 5G form, is at the cusp of realizing significant growth due to its ability to be a critical enabler in bridging the digital divide and providing faster, higher security connectivity for businesses' work-from-home (WFH) use," says Jason Leigh, research manager, Mobility and 5G research at IDC. "And at the same time, FWA's ability to wholly disrupt the broadband industry will be offset by the competitive response from incumbent wired broadband providers, the logistics of limiting FWA subscribers in certain footprints to preserve network capacity for traditional mobile subscribers, and operators' need to maintain discrete FWA footprints that do not overlap with, and cannibalize revenue from, their own wired or fiber broadband services."
