Asia/Pacific (Excluding Japan and Greater China) 2020–2021 Carrier Equipment Spending Analysis and 2022–2026 Forecast
This study analyzes the network equipment spending and total capex in the region in both fixed-line and mobile networks. All markets in the region have already launched commercial 5G networks except for Vietnam. IDC expects the early adopters of 5G mmWave in the region will deploy the high-band spectrum for indoor/outdoor hotspots and in private network (called nonpublic networks by the 3GPP). There have been a number of trials in Australia, Malaysia, and elsewhere testing mmWave in long-distance transmission up to 10km distances."As coverage deployments of 5G continue and accelerate in the region, the more advanced services and network infrastructure including standalone, network slicing, uRRLC, 5G non-terrestrial networking, and multi-access edge computing (MEC) will start to emerge first for enterprises and then gradually for consumer use cases. Fixed wireless access based on 4G/5G is being deployed in areas where fiber access is not economical in both emerging and developed markets. FTTP/FTTH access and optical transport has seen robust investment growth in the region, especially in emerging markets. High-bandwidth services, such as augmented reality/virtual reality/extended reality, will start to be realized in 5G private network enterprise scenarios with the larger consumer market evolving from around 2025," says Bill Rojas, adjunct research director, IDC Asia/Pacific.
