This IDC study presents our forecast for U.S. 5G smartphone shipments by operating system and air interface. The U.S. 5G smartphone market will reach 118.3 million units shipped in 2023, up 9.3% from the 108.2 million units shipped in 2022. From there, shipments will reach 155.0 million units in 2027, the final year of our forecast period, resulting in a CAGR of 7.4%."5G volumes continue to surge in the United States as most U.S. carriers have transitioned their device portfolios to feature primarily 5G handsets," said Anthony Scarsella, research manager with IDC's Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker. "We still believe the growth in 5G is more channel driven than consumer, as most vendors and channel partners increase their 5G presence. Moreover, the increase in 5G share, as well as high-end mmWave devices, has pushed the total U.S. smartphone ASP up by 3.3% for 2023."
