Toy and Game Retailing in Australia - Industry Market Research Report
Toy and Game Retailing in Australia
Toy and game retail sales have been like a rollercoaster ride. Stuck indoors thanks to lockdown periods, consumers raced to stock up on ways to keep children entertained. As sales of building sets, puzzles, games, electronics and art and craft activities surged, so too did demand for outdoor and sports toys, with international travel restrictions and state border closures forcing consumers to rethink holiday plans. Despite the hype, strict social gathering rules meant retailers missed out on making sales to the birthday party market. Toy and game availability also suffered at the hands of supply chain disruptions linked to the pandemic.
Industry operators sell a range of toy and game products including dolls, hobby equipment and board games. Retailers operate as part of a chain store network, or are franchised businesses or independent players. Store merchandise is purchased from domestic manufacturers and wholesalers, or imported into Australia from overseas suppliers. Online-only retailers are excluded from the industry.
This report covers the scope, size, disposition and growth of the industry including the key sensitivities and success factors. Also included are five year industry forecasts, growth rates and an analysis of the industry key players and their market shares.
