Timber Resawing and Dressing in New Zealand
Timber resawyers and dressers process logs and rough sawn timber into final industry goods. Timber resawing involves resawing rough sawn timber into timber lengths that carpenters, wood product manufacturers and building construction firms can use to manufacture structural timber products like trusses, frames and other goods. Timber door and window frame manufacturers also use resawn timber. Timber dressing involves smoothing or planing timber on all four sides to produce timber that's ready for further processing or final use. Industry goods are exported and sold to timber wholesalers that resell resawn timber to other downstream wood processers, construction firms and other markets. Resawn timber is also sold directly to wood product manufacturers, and hardware and building supplies markets.
Industry operators resaw or dress timber, timber boards and mouldings. Dressing timber includes seasoning (kiln or air drying) or chemical preservation.
