Telecommunications and Other Electrical Goods Wholesaling in Australia
Telecommunications and other electrical goods wholesalers distribute various products to downstream markets for buildings or engineering and telecommunications projects. The industry also wholesales products that businesses and households use. Wholesalers have faced mixed operating conditions over the past few years. While advances in telecommunications and electronics have elevated demand for some products, weak demand from the Construction division has dulled revenue. After the COVID-19 outbreak, poor economic conditions distributed construction projects for non-residential or commercial buildings, and falling business confidence made firms less willing to invest in construction projects. Even though more advanced smartphones like the iPhone 14 series and the Samsung Galaxy S23 have elevated sales in some product segments, they have dampened demand for others – like photocopiers and photographic equipment. Revenue is expected to fall at an annualised 1.2% to an estimated $34.1 billion over the five years through 2022-23. This trend includes an anticipated drop of 0.8% in 2022-23, as demand from the construction and manufacturing sectors has taken a hit.
Industry firms primarily wholesale electrical, electronic, photographic or communications equipment. The industry distributes a range of products, including equipment used to generate and distribute electricity, light bulbs, light fittings, alarm systems and communication equipment.
