News Syndicates in the US
The News Syndicates industry includes businesses that produce or distribute news reports, photography, columns, editorial cartoons and other informational products. News syndicates in general do not publish their own material, however some have increasingly offered content on their own websites to generate ancillary advertising revenue. The industry has escaped the severity of the decline experienced by newspapers due in part to publishers outsourcing content production to industry operators. Papers that can no longer afford to fund national or foreign bureaus can subscribe to syndicated content at a lower cost to maintain profitability without reducing the content they provide to their readers. The continued struggles of downstream print media markets will likely lead to more sharply reduced demand for industry services. Newspaper consolidation will give more regional papers access to national news produced internally.
This industry includes companies engaged in supplying information on current events, such as news reports, articles, photography and features to the news media.
