Heating & Air Conditioning Wholesaling in the US - Industry Market Research Report
Heating & Air Conditioning Wholesaling in the US
Heating and AC wholesalers derive demand from their downstream markets. A rapidly growing housing sector during the first half of the period aided wholesalers in weathering the storm that was the COVID-19 pandemic. Falling demand from the business and commercial sectors was offset by strong demand from consumers in the residential sector since new houses had to be outfitted with heating and AC systems. Growth after the COVID-19 pandemic, however, was short lived because in 2022, the Federal Reserve had to tighten the credit markets by raising interest rates to deal with rapid inflation. This depressed demand from residential and nonresidential sectors. Revenue for heating and AC wholesalers grew at a CAGR of 2.3% to $77.6 billion over the past five years, including a 2.9% decrease in 2023 alone, with profit levels reaching 4.0%.
Industry wholesalers engage in buying, selling and distributing heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment. This industry excludes in-room and in-window air conditioners and hydronic equipment (IBISWorld report 42372). Installation is also excluded; however, service and repair work are part of this industry, but these services account for only a small portion of industry revenue.
This report covers the scope, size, disposition and growth of the industry including the key sensitivities and success factors. Also included are five year industry forecasts, growth rates and an analysis of the industry key players and their market shares.
