Gas Supply in New Zealand - Industry Market Research Report
Gas Supply in New Zealand
The Gas Supply industry includes gas retailers and gas distributors. Gas retailers purchase gas from wholesalers and pay for transmission and distribution to sell to end users. Gas distributors own and operate networks of medium- and low-pressure gas mains and charge fees to gas retailers for transporting gas to customers. Industry operators have faced rising input costs and greater competition over the past five years. Stronger competition has encouraged retailers to increase their focus on customer service, driving employment growth and higher industry wage costs. Industry revenue is expected to fall at an annualised 0.8% over the five years through 2022-23, to total $631.6 million. However, revenue is expected to grow by 3.3% in 2022-23 as tight supply conditions continue to place upward pressure on gas prices. Demand conditions are also expected to improve in the current year as restrictions on non-essential businesses and travel ease in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Industry players distribute gas through mains systems to consumers and industrial users. Firms mainly supply either natural gas or LPG. The industry excludes firms that operate gas pipelines.
This report covers the scope, size, disposition and growth of the industry including the key sensitivities and success factors. Also included are five year industry forecasts, growth rates and an analysis of the industry key players and their market shares.
