Furniture, Lighting & Homeware Retailers in the UK
Over the five years through 2023-24, revenue is expected to decrease at a compound annual rate of 2.8% to £13.4 billion. A solid housing market has bolstered the industry's performance as the government battled against housing shortages across the UK. However, the growing proportion of rented households has shaken up the homeware and furnishing market. According to the 2022 English Housing Survey, the number of households in the private rented sector has increased from 10% of households in 1990s to 19% in 2021. This has depressed sales in furniture and homeware, as rented households often don't purchase bulk furniture or homeware because of the high costs of products and the lack of consent from landlords.
Retailers in the industry sell household, outdoor and office furniture and other household goods (e.g. light fixtures, utensils, cutlery, crockery, glassware and non-electrical household appliances). Online-only retailers do not fall under this industry.
This report covers the scope, size, disposition and growth of the industry including the key sensitivities and success factors. Also included are five year industry forecasts, growth rates and an analysis of the industry key players and their market shares."
