Camera & Film Wholesaling in the US
The Camera and Film Wholesaling industry has declined over the five years to 2019. Much of this decline is attributable to the incorporation of high-quality cameras in smartphones, which continues to pose a substantial threat to industry operators. As camera phone technology has improved to nearly match the quality of stand-alone digital cameras, consumers have increasingly used smartphones to satisfy their photography needs. Declining demand has been compounded by a contracting customer base. As online retailers continue to sell directly to end users and large-scale manufacturers internalize large portions of their distribution processes, independent wholesalers have been increasingly cut out of the supply chain. Moving forward, increased competition over a limited customer base will cause many smaller operators to exit the industry.
Industry operators wholesale photographic equipment and supplies, including digital cameras, photofinishing equipment, photographic film, TV cameras and projection equipment. This industry does not wholesale office supplies, photocopying equipment, microfilm equipment or household video cameras.
