Automotive Glass Manufacturing in the US - Industry Market Research Report
Automotive Glass Manufacturing in the US
Automotive glass manufacturers have endured a difficult period as low automobile demand dragged down automakers and repair shops, manufacturers' only customers. The outbreak of COVID-19 led international governments to enact lockdown measures, bringing the US economy to a screeching halt, putting many out of work and cutting consumer spending dramatically. Consumers that did have extra cash to spend during this period weren't focused on transportation, however. As pandemic-related disruptions faded, automakers still struggled due to high key commodity prices, and glass manufacturers struggled with this directly as high fuel prices raised production costs. Recovering industrial production raised the availability of key inputs, though, having a mixed effect on profit. Altogether, industry revenue has been declining at a CAGR of 2.6% to an estimated $3.0 billion over the past five years, including a 0.2% decrease in 2023 alone.
Manufacturers in this industry produce glass products for use in automobiles by melting silica sand or cullet and fabricating purchased glass. These products include mirrors, windshields, windows, screens and HUDs. These are made from flat glass, tempered glass, electric glass and other types of glass that provide varying degrees of strength, reflectiveness and transparency.
