After-School Program Providers in the US
After-school programs have struggled to survive the challenges of the past five years. Despite their position as essential for some families, daily life was massively altered as COVID-19 spread and social distancing guidelines became the norm. Many schools and workplaces went fully remote for several months, completely removing the need for after-school care. Despite many workers returning to the office, lingering work-from-home policies often give consumers the flexibility to perform many of the duties they would have relied on after-school programs for. When combined with post-pandemic inflation that led per capita disposable income to plummet, many parents simply weren't willing to pay for services they could do themselves. Because of lackluster usage, industry-wide revenue has been falling at a CAGR of 2.4% over the past five years and is expected to total $23.1 billion in 2023, when revenue will drop by an estimated 3.3%.
This industry organizes youth programs that take place outside of the traditional school day. After-school programs can occur at various times of the day and in a variety of places, including the school building, community centers, libraries or parks. Activities include everything from sports and study groups to performing and creative arts. As many industry operators are nonprofit organizations, they are exempt from federal income tax.
This report covers the scope, size, disposition and growth of the industry including the key sensitivities and success factors. Also included are five year industry forecasts, growth rates and an analysis of the industry key players and their market shares.
