Electric Vehicles Market Research Reports & Industry Analysis

As the promise of large-scale adoption of electric vehicles continues to rise on a global scale, consumers can expect more models to become available. Electric vehicles should be able to reduce the impact of global carbon dioxide emissions from personal vehicle transportation during the coming decades. In addition, they boast greater fuel efficiency and longer comparative miles per gallon, as it were, based upon their usage of battery-stored electricity kept in reserve in a centralized power grid. Despite this, these vehicles have had difficulty in gaining market share with a doubtful consumer base. While vehicles operating on alternate fuel sources such as ethanol or biofuels have been received better, hybrid and pure electric vehicles have suffered because of inaccessibility to compatible fueling grids.Electric vehicles use one or more electric motors to propel the vehicle. They are different from traditional fossil fuel powered vehicles in that their power may be obtained from various sources: solar power, wind energy, or other renewable energy sources. This energy is entered into the vehicle via overhead cables, direct cable connections, or wirelessly. Electric vehicles are unique in that they are able to renew their own energy during the braking period when the vehicle is operational. That energy may be used to restore the on-board battery.Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV)These hybrid vehicles are the ones most commonly thought of by the average consumer. They may be plugged into a standard low voltage outlet to charge the vehicle’s battery.Series vs. Parallel PHEVsThese vehicles have both electric and fuel engines which may operate in tandem. In the parallel function, the two connect separately to the transmission, allowing both to exert primary source function when necessary. The vehicle can alternate which engine provides the power, depending upon need.Rechargeable BatteriesThese batteries are known as the storage batteries in electric vehicles. They provide a set amount of electron pressure – known as voltage – and are available if the primary electric engine needs additional assistance. The voltage is measured in volts (V) for reporting purposes.
