Global Industrial X-ray Film Market 2025 by Manufacturers, Regions, Type and Application, Forecast to 2031
According to our (Global Info Research) latest study, the global Industrial X-ray Film market size was valued at US$ 319 million in 2024 and is forecast to a readjusted size of USD 487 million by 2031 with a CAGR of 6.1% during review period.
Industrial X-ray film, referred to as industrial film, is a film designed for industrial X-ray photography. This film is widely used for non-destructive X-ray inspection of devices, profiles, parts or welds made of ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals and their alloys, or other materials with small decay coefficients. It is also used for special equipment inspection, such as boilers, pressure vessels, pressure pipelines (such as oil, liquefied gas, etc.).
The photosensitive material of industrial film is silver halide, and X-rays can make silver halide photosensitize. However, compared with visible light, rays are more difficult to be absorbed by silver halide particles and produce photochemical reactions, so the sensitivity is low. Moreover, the shorter the wavelength of the ray, the higher the energy, the more difficult it is to be absorbed by silver halide, and the lower the sensitivity. In order to meet the needs of industrial non-destructive inspection, industrial X-ray film usually adopts double-sided fine-grained silver halide emulsion coating and contains a high amount of silver to increase the absorption rate of rays. At the same time, lead intensifying screens are used to increase the sensitivity of rays and ensure that the sensitivity to visible light is as low as possible.
The advantages of using X-ray film are many. First of all, it has high resolution and details. X-ray film provides excellent image quality, allowing inspectors to detect even the smallest defects. In addition, the inspected parts remain intact and usable after testing. Finally, it can also save a document record. X-rays serve as a permanent record of the inspection and can be reviewed or referenced later.
The core global manufacturers of industrial X-ray films include Agfa-Gevaert, FUJIFILM and Carestream Health, and the top three manufacturers account for nearly 70% of the market share. In terms of geographical distribution, Europe is the largest production region, accounting for more than 40% of the market share, followed by Japan, accounting for about 30% of the market share. In terms of application, oil and gas, aerospace and defense, automotive industry, infrastructure and power generation are the main application areas, among which the oil and gas field accounts for about 25% of the market share. Industrial X-ray film is a critical tool in the non-destructive testing (NDT) process in the oil and gas industry. It is used to inspect welds, pipelines, pressure vessels, and structural components for flaws, cracks, or inconsistencies without causing damage.
