The heating element generates heat at the wavelength necessary to produce the proper level of intensity to heat the specific material required. The purpose of the quartz tube is to protect the heating element while preventing convective heat from escaping. The principle of quartz heating is that the heating element becomes very hot and the quartz tube suddenly heats up.
