VINCI SA (VINCI) is an integrated construction and concessions firm. It performs design, construction and infrastructure management and facilities at a global scale. The company’s portfolio of services comprises design and coordination, infrastructure development, civil and hydraulic engineering, consultancy, maintenance and technical support services for transport infrastructure and public facilities. VINCI builds public and private buildings, energy, transport systems, airport and urban development, and water, energy, and communication network projects. VINCI also executes transport infrastructure concession operations across airports, motorway, stadium, rail, bridge and tunnel, and parking facility sectors. The company has presence across Africa, Europe, the Americas, Asia, and the Middle East.

In July 2019, VINCI Immobilier launched a venture investment company focused on real estate startups. VINCI Immobilier is a real estate developer and VINCI’s subsidiary. Through this Corporate Fund Venture, the company aims to identify and finance startups providing innovative technology solutions that align with its asset management and real estate development initiatives.

In December 2017, VINCI’s innovation platform, Leonard, collaborated with six other corporate groups and 101 experts in the field of artificial intelligence to create Hub France IA. It is a collaborative association aimed at creating a French AI sector that brings together all the players currently building, offering, or inclined towards artificial intelligence solutions.

In 2019, VINCI Airports began a program in order to further strengthen its digital innovation strategy. As part of this program, three airports are selected with a specific area of expertise. The program aims to develop and test innovations that have the potential to be rolled out to other airports in VINCI’s network. The three airports selected are London Lyon - Saint Exupéry (for passenger experience); Lisbon (for passenger flow management); and Gatwick (for improving runway operations). This program facilitates testing of artificial intelligence, automation, and biometrics etc. related applications aligned with the airport operations. The company also has innovation center for Highways and Electronic Tolling at Peru. The center works towards modernizing the road infrastructure.

In July 2017, VINCI launched Leonard to identify and accelerate innovative business projects carried out by the company’s employees. Leonard focuses on developing innovative ideas related to construction, mobility, real estate, retail, or sustainable cities. In May 2020, Leonard partnered with CEMEX Ventures’ 2020 Construction Startup Competition to identify and support startups providing innovative solutions in the construction sector. In Nov 2019, Leonard created a five-month AI program that specifically supports artificial intelligence projects conceived by any of the VINCI’s entity. In Jul 2019, Leonard launched two programs called SEED and CATALYST to facilitate collaboration between VINCI and external startups. SEED’s duration is six months, and it supports startups in product development and receiving their first round of funding. CATALYST is a six-month program that provides mentorship and funding support to innovative startups and SMEs whose offerings are related to VINCI’s business lines.

In 2017, VINCI Energies launched an international hackathon called Human Beyond Digital Hack. The hackathon comprises three challenges: Data science and machine learning for detection of frauds; 3D visualization of IoT data; and behavior detection.

In 2017, VINCI Autoroutes set up a Digital Factory to support and develop innovative ideas within the company. It works in collaborative with operational management division of the company and encourages all the employees to present, build, and lead their ideas into a fully functional technological business offering.

In June 2016, VINCI Energies introduced Inerbiz, a financial and managerial investment fund to support startups offering innovative solutions in the energy sector. Inerbiz allows VINCI Energies to expand into new technologies as well as assist its clients in energy transition and digital transformation. Through this investment fund, VINCI Energies develops long-term business and industrial partnerships with startups providing them opportunities to develop and test their prototypes.

  • VINCI leverages Building Information Management models to carry out modular construction projects and enhance operational efficiencies of its business divisions. VINCI Facilities implemented BIM digital models for technical maintenance, data transfer, real-time collaboration, and 3D visualization of building projects. VINCI Construction’s digital services business, Sixense, deployed BIM models for precise 3D cross-sectional extraction of building sections. VINCI is also adopting Building Operating System as its key construction approach for leveraging a smart building mechanism.
  • VINCI implemented Oracle Human Capital Management cloud solution as part of Project Vitalis. Oracle HCM provides integrated HR transformation solutions that optimize end-to-end processes including hiring, talent management, payroll, and workforce management across the clients’ geographical operations and organizational divisions like finance, customer experience, supply chain, etc.
  • VINCI is implementing automation procedures in order to bring efficiency and safety to its waste removal processes. Neom, a subsidiary of VINCI Construction France, introduced robotic processes for waste removal from construction sites without any human intervention. Neom specializes in demolition and lead removal, asbestos removal, cleaning and plumbing procedures across construction sites in France.
  • VINCI is implementing blockchain technology for enhancing its supply chain efficiency. VINCI Construction UK along with Skanska, BRE, nPlan, and Assentian began working on development of a blockchain-based digital planning and supply chain management toolbox called PLASMA. The PLASMA toolbox was aimed at improving the productivity of construction procedures through better project planning, supply chain collaboration, and analysis of the data related to construction projects.
