While events took place with athletes excelling on the pitch, key deals were signed off it with the NBA securing a new media rights deal while commercial departments at both brands and rights holders were busy securing new deals with the likes of Nike securing deals to supply kits to Germany and Brazil, and UEFA securing mega money deals with Bet365 and Qatar Airways.

However, streaming services are making a more concentrated effort to shape the future of the industry with Amazon and Netflix both taking on the role of sports broadcaster in much more significant ways over the next few years.
