Strategic Intelligence: IT Infrastructure Sector Scorecard Q3 2024 Update
Summary
After a period of stasis at the top of the thematic rankings for GlobalData’s IT infrastructure sector scorecard, there was some movement in Q3 2024. Cisco remains in the top spot, with Alphabet just behind, but Microsoft has dropped two places from third to fifth, while Nvidia has jumped up from eighth to fourth, and Amazon has improved by one position to third.
Key Highlights
Microsoft has the same scores as Amazon and Nvidia for key themes like artificial intelligence (AI) and cybersecurity, but it has a lower score for the geopolitics and network infrastructure themes. This ensures it ranks below its rivals despite outscoring Amazon in the edge computing theme and bettering Nvidia in the subscriptions and observability themes.
Three themes in the thematic screen have a weighting of 15%, reflecting their importance. They are AI, cybersecurity, and observability. Observability relates to the ability to measure the internal states of a system by examining its outputs, typically generated by sensors, servers, storage, networking, and other IT equipment. It has gained momentum in DevOps, security, and networking, but customer awareness is low.
New products and solutions, alongside marketing blitzes, will drive growth in customer awareness and interest. Ultimately, everyone will use the term to describe management and monitoring.
