Moreover, a decline in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), coupled with a weak external demand will continue to threaten the construction industry in the short term. According to the Central Bank of Romania, the total FDI in the country fell by 5.5% YoY, reaching RON20.1 billion ($4.4 billion), in the first eight months of 2024. GlobalData expects Romanian construction industry to recover at an average annual rate of 3.7% from 2025 to 2028, supported by to investments in infrastructure, renewable energy, and housing infrastructure projects, coupled with government commitment to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). In June 2024, Domestic banking service provider Banca Transilvania signed an agreement with the European Investment Bank (EIB) to provide support for the development of SMEs at an investment of RON2 billion ($436.7 million) by 2027.
