The UK Summer 2024 report forms part of the Retail Occasions series, and offers a comprehensive overview of the major retail occasion of summer. The report analyses the market, the major players, the main trends and consumer attitudes.

The proportion of consumers buying for summer this year has risen by 12.5ppts on 2024 to 71.1%. We have not seen this level of summer shopper penetration since 2018.  A boost in consumer confidence following the recent general election will have driven this surge in consumer activity, with many consumers anticipating a Labour government and perceiving this as a positive change. 21.6% of consumers have also stated they feel better off financially this year.

  • Buying for holidays saw the highest uplift in summer shoppers purchasing the category, with penetration rising 6.5ppts versus last year to 57.4%.
