The construction industry in Poland is expected to shrink in real terms by 5.7% in 2024, owing to high inflation and construction costs, coupled with a weak residential construction activity due to elevated housing prices. According to Eurostat, the construction industry’s value fell by 4.5% year on year (YoY) in Q2 2024, preceded by a Y-o-Y decline of 12.6% in Q1 2024 and growth of 7.6% in Q4 2023. Meanwhile the total number of dwellings completed declined by 9.9% YoY in the first seven months of 2024, following an annual decline of 7.2% in 2023.
The construction industry, however, is expected to recover and record an average annual growth of 3.6% from 2025 to 2028, supported by public and private sector investments in country’s transport infrastructure, manufacturing and renewable energy sectors. In July 2024, the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways signed a construction contract for the development of a section of the S11 expressway Siemianice - Gotartów. The PLN577.5 million ($132.3 million) worth contract is one of three sections of the 46km route, which will connect three provinces: Opole, Greater Poland and Łódź. The project includes the construction of 23km two carriageways with two lanes each, reconstruction of local and service roads, a bridge, viaducts, animal crossings, and culverts.
