Oman is the largest Middle East oil producer outside the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). As of 2022, the Sultanate holds approximately 5.2 billion barrels of crude oil and 24 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. First exploration activities in Oman date back to 1920s, however, the first commercial discovery had not been made until 1962. In 2000, the Sultanate entered the LNG global market exporting first shipment of super chilled fuel to South Korea.
