Occasionwear in Apparel Industry - Analysing Trends, Opportunities and Strategies for Success
Summary
The COVID-19 pandemic had a major impact on occasions in 2020 and 2021 as restrictions prevented large gatherings, leading many to postpone their weddings and other special events, and many Christmas parties were cancelled due to the rise of the Omicron variant in December 2021. The easing of restrictions in 2022 has led to a major surge in events as two years' worth of postponed events are finally able to take place, with 61.0% of UK consumers who said they will spend more on occasionwear in the next 12 months compared to 2019 stating that this is because they will attend more events. Many players, such as LK Bennett, Rixo, and Zara, released wedding collections in early 2022, hoping to capitalize on the lucrative bridalwear market while providing consumers with relatively affordable options compared to traditional bridal designers and boutiques—which will be especially appealing given the pressures on consumers’ discretionary incomes.
