Summary
Norway has been the largest producer of oil and gas in Europe region since the 1970s, exploiting resources in the North, Norwegian and Barents Sea basins. Total liquids and gas production peaked in 2004 equating to 4.54 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (mmboed), liquids covering 70% of production. Natural gas production peaked in 2017 recording the highest 12,000 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd), which has been in decline over the previous years, however is set to increase. Within the world, Norway covers approximately 2 per cent of the global demand for crude and 3 per cent for natural gas. In the past years Norway has supplied between 20 and 25 per cent of natural gas to EU and United Kingdom.
