Mongolia Construction Market Size, Trend Analysis by Sector (Commercial, Industrial, Infrastructure, Energy and Utilities, Institutional and Residential) and Forecast, 2023-2027
Summary
The construction industry in Mongolia is expected to expand by 5.2% in real terms in 2023, down from an annual growth of 7.9% in 2022. This slowing of growth is attributed to rising inflation and higher interest rates and the resulting deterioration of purchasing power. The Russia-Ukraine war is also expected to weigh on the industry's output, given that Mongolia is Russia’s direct southern neighbor, and its economy depends on the import of strategically important goods from Russia.
Over the remainder of the forecast period, GlobalData expects the Mongolian construction industry to record an annual average growth of 4.4% between 2024 and 2027, supported by investment in the transport, electricity, housing, and mining sectors. In March 2023, the Mongolian Government, and the cooperation of United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP) announced that they are committed to expanding the capacity and operation of the transportation and logistics sectors in Mongolia. The Mongolian government also intends to construct dry ports and international airports in Khushig Valley, Zamiin-uud port, Altanbulag port and Khovd and Dornod provinces, to increase the carrying capacity of freight transportation, ensure fast clearance, and increase the volume of transit freights.
