Mexico’s construction industry is expected to grow by 4.1% real terms in 2024, supported by investments in the construction of manufacturing facilities and renewable energy projects. According to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), the construction industry’s value add grew by 10.1% year-on-year (YoY) in the first half (H1) of 2024, compared to an overall annual growth of 15.6% in 2023. However, the industry is expected to face challenges in 2025, owing to high base effects, high inflation, inflammatory building materials prices, and diminishing construction confidence. According to the Monthly Business Opinion Survey conducted by INEGI, the average construction confidence index declined by 3.2% YoY in the first seven months of 2024. In another setback to the industry’s output over the coming months, the US is estimated to have paused investments of around MXN608.3 billion ($35 billion) in Mexico owing to concerns about the upcoming Judicial Power reform being discussed in the Mexican Senate.
Mexico’s construction industry is expected to register an annual average growth of 2.3% between 2026 and 2028, supported by public-private sector investment in oil and gas, transport infrastructure, and industrial construction projects. As part of “Program for the Development of Industrial Parks 2024-2030”, the country is expected to attract MXN107.8 billion ($6.2 billion) to MXN149.5 billion ($8.6 billion) in private investments for the construction of 128 industrial parks by 2030. As of August 2024, around 72 parks were in various development stages, with 23% of the projects having permits or construction underway, and the rest nearing the permitting stage.
