Financial intermediation, real estate, and business activities contributed 33.8% to New Zealand’s gross value added (GVA) in 2023, followed by mining, manufacturing, and utilities (13.9%), and wholesale, retail, and hotels business activities (12.4%). In nominal terms, the three sectors are forecast to grow by 3.8%, 4.1%, and 3.6% in 2024.

In 2023, Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch were home to 37.8% of New Zealand’s population and contributed 41.9% to the country’s GDP, based on data from the GlobalData Cities Database.

The SNZSE50FG Index has been on an upward trend. As of September 16, 2024, the index stood at 12,704.4, compared to 11,347.7 on September 16, 2023.
