Summary

Mining, manufacturing, and utilities contributed 29.9% to Iran’s gross value added (GVA) in 2023, followed by wholesale, retail, and hotel activities (12.9%) and agriculture (14.3%). In nominal terms, the three sectors are forecast to grow by 39.6%, 38.7%, and 40.4%, respectively, in 2024.

Tehran generated around 27.3% of Iran’s GDP and was home to 16.7% of the country’s population as of 2023, according to the GlobalData cities database.

Iran’s Planning and Budget Organization (PBO) allocated IRR3.0 quadrillion (over $6.0 billion) for construction and infrastructure projects in the next Iranian calendar year’s (March 2024-March 2025) national budget bill.
