The construction industry in India is expected to expand by 7.8% in real terms in 2024, supported by public and private sector investment in manufacturing and energy projects, and government investment to improve and expand transport infrastructure. Growth will be supported by the approval of the final Financial Year (FY) 2024-25 (April 1st, 2024-March 31st, 2025) Budget in July 2024. The major focus includes the development of the infrastructure sector with a provision of over INR1.1 trillion ($13.2 billion) for FY2024-25. In the FY2024-25 budget, capital expenditure for FY2024-25 stood at INR11.1 trillion ($133.7 billion), an increase of 11.1% compared with FY2023-24 Budget expenditure.
The Indian construction industry is expected to register an average annual growth of 5.8% between 2025 and 2028, supported by investment in green energy projects, road, rail and housing projects. Under the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan, that was launched in October 2021, the government approved a INR180.4 billion ($2.2 billion) New Line Project in August 2024. The project includes the construction of a 309km long rail line with 30 new stations between Mumbai and Indore by 2029. Growth over the forecast period will be also supported by the government’s aim to increase renewable energy capacity from 197.2GW as of July 2024 to 500GW by 2030 and achieve net zero emissions by the end of 2070.
