Development of Electric Mining Vehicles in Surface and Underground Mining, 2022 Update
Summary
As miners strive to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, many are beginning to invest in battery-powered and electric-powered mining fleets as they embark on the long-term goal of diesel displacement.
The pace of switching to electric mining vehicles is highest underground; over 200 LHDs and mining trucks were running on electric power by early 2022. For surface mines the use of electric-powered mining trucks has been relatively limited. It has historically focused on the use of trolley-assist trucks, of which GlobalData is tracking 160 globally, with battery power still being trialled.
