Summary
The Colombian construction industry is expected to grow by 3.4% in 2023, after growing by an estimated 7.8% in 2022, and then is set to expand at an annual average of 4.8% between 2024 and 2027, partly owing to a low base effect, coupled with the government’s effort improve infrastructure across the country and increase renewable energy production. According to the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE) Colombia, the construction industry’s value add grew by 13.4% year on year (YoY) in Q3 2022, preceded by Y-o-Y growth of 9.6% in Q2 and 4.7% in Q1 2022. In addition, the total area approved for construction grew by 53.9% in the first ten months of 2022, increasing from 17.5 million m2 in January-October 2021 to 26.9 million m2 in January-October 2022. Of this, the area; residential construction grew by 57.3%, while non-residential building grew by 39.4% during the same period.
Over the forecast period, the industry’s growth will be supported by ongoing efforts to accelerate the completion of Colombia’s fourth generation (4G) road infrastructure program and push forward with plans for its fifth generation (5G) concessions program. Furthermore, the energy and utilities sector will be supported by government investments to meet the country’s aim of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 51% by 2030 and reaching carbon neutrality by 2050.
