Summary

Bolivia’s construction industry is expected to register an annual growth of 2.4% in real terms in 2023, before recording an average annual growth of 4.6% between 2024 and 2027, supported by investment in the country’s transport, health, and education infrastructure projects, coupled with the government’s plan to spend on various projects in the industrial sector, as part of the country’s industrialization plan. In the General State Budget (PGE) for 2023, BOB27.6 billion ($4 billion) was allocated for public investment this year. This includes an allocation of BOB11.7 billion ($1.7 billion) for manufacturing sector, BOB7 billion ($1 billion) for social sector, BOB6.6 billion ($959 million) for infrastructure sector and BOB2.4 billion ($352 million) for multisectoral sector strategic projects that will be carried out in the nine departments of the country. The infrastructure works in the budget includes the construction of 478km of roadways, rehabilitation of 93km of existing roads, implementation of five new air routes, and modernizing airports throughout Bolivia.

Forecast-period growth in the Bolivian construction industry will also be supported by the Economic and Social Development Plan (PDES) 2021-2025, which includes an allocation of BOB229.4 billion ($33.2 billion) over the five-year period, to develop the country’s overall infrastructure. In addition to this, the announcement of an investment of BOB3.2 billion ($457 million) in 2022 for the construction of the Bi-Oceanic Integration Rail Corridor by 2025 by the Ministry of Public Works is expected to aid growth over the forecast period.
