Fired Air Heaters Market Analysis and Forecast to 2031: By Type (Direct Fired Air Heater, Indirect Fired Air Heater), End User (Manufacturing, Chemicals, Mining, Construction, Oil and Gas, Pharmaceuticals, Food, Others), and Region
The global fired air heaters market was valued at US$ 0.5 billion in 2021 and it is anticipated to grow up to US$ 0.8 billion by 2031, at a CAGR of 4.6% during the forecast period.
Fired heaters, often referred to as furnaces (direct fired heaters), are pieces of equipment often used in processing facilities to heat gases or liquids up to a desired temperature. Fired heaters in the petrochemical and refining industry are critical pieces of equipment that can have a major impact on process unit safety, reliability, and economics. They are complex pieces of equipment, where tubes and other pressure boundary components might fail due to relatively short periods of upset conditions. Fired heaters come in two configurations, including direct fired heaters and indirect fired heaters. Direct fired heaters utilize a burner to produce hot gasses that transfer their heat energy to a process liquid or gas flowing directly through furnace tubes installed inside the vessel. Indirect fired heaters utilize burners to heat a heat exchanger, over which cool air is circulated and heated.
Market Drivers and Trends
Boilers, heat pumps, and fernanes are industrial heating equipment used in chemical, food, construction, mining, and other industries to carry out production processes. A boiler is a closed vessel in which water or another liquid is heated and steam is formed, subsequently used to drive machines when dispensed under high pressure. Furthermore, a heat pump is a device that transfers heat to warm or cool areas. Moreover, furnaces are essential components of a central heating system. In amine and glycol reboilers, the corrosive hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide gases must be removed from hydrocarbon steam before the respective fuels may be stored or introduced into the pipeline in natural gas and crude oil refining. Similar to natural gas steam, glycol is used to remove water from natural gas before distribution. Because of its cheap maintenance and simplicity, this type of heater is used in natural gas, crude oil, and processing sectors. In the chemical process sector, fired heaters are commonly used to heat process fluids and generate steam.
In most cases, fired heaters consume the most energy in the process industry. A box-type heater with vertical tubes is utilized to heat a hydrocarbon fluid for this investigation. Elution heaters, a specialized application of fired air heaters that requires a distinct and unique design, are used in the mining industry. Elution is the process of extracting one material from another by washing with a solvent, nearly always with the addition of heat, in analytical and organic chemistry. Minerals such as gold are extracted using exchangers. A mineral and solvent solution circulates on one side of the exchanger and a heat-transmitting fluid-commonly thermal fluid-distributes on the other. In the food industry, particularly in frying trains - potatoes, snacks, and precooked - is via heat transfer fluid heaters, in which thermal fluid circulates that is heated in the equipment, and its heat is transferred to the oil that fries the products above through an exchange. Some installations have been carried out here, similar to the mining elution process, where the frying oil circulates straight through the boiler, which is subsequently used as a fired air heater. Direct fired heaters are occasionally used as heat transfer fluid heaters or indirect heaters in the petrochemical industry. The good operation of the maintenance service of direct fired heaters in chemical plants and refineries and the uniformity of spare parts are the main reasons for this uptake because heat transfer fluid heaters are renowned for their advantages in their specific functions. Thus, the rise in demand for heating equipment for various industrial applications is driving the fired air heaters market.
Market Restraints and Challenges
Manufacturers of fired heaters are expected to adhere to certain regulatory standards imposed by international regulatory bodies. The regulations pertaining to material used for lining fired heaters are most crucial, making manufacturers to fetch for sustainable alternatives. Further, the complex and large profile of fired heaters make it essential for professional installation, resulting in additional costs to the end users. In addition, the relatively greater maintenance costs add to the expenses of fired heater deployments, which in turn continues to hinder adoption of fired heaters.
Global Fired Air Heaters Market Segmental Overview
The report analyses the global fired air heaters market based on type, end user, and region.
Global Fired Air Heaters Market by Type
Based on type, it is bifurcated into direct fired air heater and indirect fired air heater. The direct fired air heater segment is expected to be the largest segment in the fired air heaters market in 2021. Direct fired heaters provide a safe means to heat industrial environments by maintaining an appropriate air-to-fuel ratio, a natural gas or propane. The gas is delivered directly to the burner in a direct fired heater, while the airstream provides the necessary oxygen for combustion. The gas is mixed with the air that is driven through the burner baffle. The burner is set up to burn in tandem with and parallel to the airflow. Fuel consumption and running expenses are lowered as approximately 100% of the fuel is converted to heat. Due to above mentioned factors, the direct fired air heater segment is expected to hold a major market share in 2021.

The key players studied in the global fired air heaters market are
COVID-19 Impact
In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in economic challenges owing to subsequent lockdowns. In 2020, the manufacturing industry was severely affected due to a drastic decrease in product demand, falling prices, and storage shortages. A swift decline in manufacturing revenues due to virtually nonexistent manufacturing demand and slow production capabilities had limited the expenditure on the production of fired air heaters worldwide. Thus, the COVID-19 pandemic negatively affected the global fired air heaters market in 2020.
However, in 2021, the manufacturing industry started recovering from the significant labor and supply chain challenges that triggered the production of fired air heaters.
