CASE Strategies of OEMs

CASE Strategies of OEMs

State-of-the-Art Technology and Strategic Partnerships Enhance Offerings as Visions Adapt to Evolving Market Conditions and Intensifying Competition

The automotive industry is undergoing unprecedented transformation driven by connected, autonomous, shared, and electric (CASE) trends. This study considers all four categories for selected automakers.

Connected:
• The various areas of connected mobility
• The extent of OEMs’ in-house capabilities and a comparative benchmarking
• Major partnerships

Autonomous:
• The level of autonomy achieved by each OEM and the extent of in-house capabilities
• Past initiatives and roadmaps for the future
• Major partnerships
• Comparative analyses and key inferences about strategies

Shared:
• Major OEM initiatives, the extent of their in-house capabilities, and major partnerships enabling the strategy
• Inferences about strategies

Electric:
• Measures taken and vision for each stage of the electric vehicle value chain
• OEMs’ electric vehicle lineups and anticipated models
• Manufacturing capacity plans around the world
• Key takeaways

Strategies of each automaker are interlinked and represent a shift toward a more sustainable, efficient, and user-centric transportation ecosystem. This project delves into leading automakers’ strategies in each area. New industry entrants and pure-play electric vehicle (EV) makers are not in the scope of this study.

Connected cars exchange data with the outside world, opening a plethora of possibilities related to safety, security, convenience, and data-driven optimization. The development of autonomous vehicles is progressing through different levels of automation, with Level 5 representing full autonomy. Investments continue to pour in, but technological hurdles and ethical considerations seem to dampen the progress. Younger generations are rethinking the goal of vehicle ownership and prefer shared mobility, forcing automakers to consider it as an avenue for growth and revenue generation. OEMs have mixed feelings about going fully electric, but they have invested heavily and are aggressively pursuing fleet electrification.
