This report forecasts to 2027 US wood fencing demand in linear feet and nominal US dollars at the manufacturer level. Total demand by value is segmented by type in terms of: privacy, picket, post and rail, and split rail and other types such as lattice and worm. Total demand by value is also segmented by market as follows: residential buildings, commercial buildings, nonbuilding, and agricultural.
To illustrate historical trends, total demand by value is provided in annual series from 2012 to 2022; total demand in linear feet and the various segments are reported at five-year intervals for 2012, 2017, and 2022.
A fence (or fencing) is defined as a structure that is built around the perimeter of a property or area to mark the boundaries and provide security and/or privacy. For the purposes of this report, fences constructed with more than one material are categorized by the primary material used to span the area between posts.
In addition to primary fencing, this report also includes demand for fencing accessories such as gates, gate operators, and hardware (e.g., locks, latches, and hinges). Excluded from the scope of this report are: deck and porch rails, DIY fences built on-site by consumers from basic materials, guardrails, highway sound barriers, retaining walls, and solar fencing.
