This report forecasts to 2024 US wood fencing demand in linear feet and nominal US dollars at the manufacturer level. Total demand by value is segmented by type in terms of: privacy, picket, post and rail, and split rail and other types such as lattice and worm. Total demand by value is also segmented by market as follows: residential buildings, commercial buildings, nonbuilding, and agricultural.

To illustrate historical trends, total demand by value is provided in annual series from 2009 to 2019; total demand in linear feet and the various segments are reported at five-year intervals for 2009, 2014, and 2019.

Fences constructed with more than one material (e.g., wire fencing with wood posts) are categorized by the primary material used to span the area between posts. For example, wire fencing with wood posts is considered to be metal fencing for the purposes of this report. Excluded from the scope of this report are retaining walls, guardrails, highway sound barriers, and deck and porch rails.
