This report forecasts to 2027 US wood and competitive decking demand in lineal feet. Total demand is segmented by material in terms of: wood; wood-plastic composite; plastic; and metal and other materials such as stone, concrete, and nonwood composites. Total demand is also segmented by market as follows: residential construction, commercial construction, and nonbuilding construction
To illustrate historical trends, total demand is provided in annual series from 2012 to 2022; the various segments are reported at five-year intervals for 2012, 2017, and 2022.
Decks are defined as unroofed, flat, elevated platforms or structures that are constructed outdoors and either attached to a building or designed to stand alone. The scope of this report encompasses two main product categories: deck boards, which are used to make the floor structure of the deck; and accessories such as railing systems (consisting of a top rail, spindles, and bottom rail), stairs, benches, and planter boxes.
Decking demand numbers shown throughout the report do not include structural components of decking systems (e.g., posts and joints).
Competitive products that are excluded from the scope of this report include: balconies (platforms protruding from an upper story of a building, and can either be cantilevered or supported from below); patios (ground-level, paved outdoor areas located at the rear of a structure; they can be either uncovered or shaded); and porches (which can be open-sided, screened, or glass-enclosed; are also typically raised off the ground and roofed; and are often located at the front of a building, but can also wrap around entirely).
Installation costs and hardware are excluded from market values presented in this report.
Key macroeconomic indicators are also provided with quantified trends. Other various topics, including profiles of pertinent leading companies, are covered in this report. A full outline of report items by page is available in the Table of Contents.
